THE PASSAGE OF TIME, IN A BOX
TYPE OF WORK:
Winter Session 2020
11” x 7” x 2”
This project was created as a final for The Collaged Image, instructed by Jamie Murphy Hlynsky. The premise of the assignment was to show the movement of time visually in a contained form. The inception of my concept for this project came from thoughts I had been mulling over for my senior thesis—thoughts of my own family and heritage. And thus, I decided to explore those ideas and began searching through boxes and various family photo albums for images that would depict my family’s immigration from both Portugal and Brazil to the United States.
This box explores ideas of saudade, a Portuguese word for the feeling of nostalgic longing for something or someone that one was fond of and which as been lost.
